Cuba Information
Sancti Spiritus
Cuba Destinations - Sancti Spiritus Sancti Spíritus is one of the provinces of Cuba with many attractive tourist options. One of the places favored is Trinidad (and the Valley of the Sugar Mills), declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.

Trinidad owes its prosperity to the sugar boom at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century, and vestiges of that boom can be seen in the Valley of the Sugar Mills including the Manaca Iznaga Tower (1750). This tower took its name from one of the richest sugar barons of the region, who erected the 44-meter high tower to watch over his slaves. Today, after climbing the tower, you can see a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside and even glimpse the sea.

Trinidad possesses one of the best collections of preserved Spanish colonial architecture on the American continent, a fact recognized by UNESCO in December 1988 when it was declared a World Heritage Site.

It’s a city that invites you to wander its tranquil cobblestone streets and its many plazas. From here one can discover, with each step, the history of the place through the medium of its many museums, the large, cool mansions of the 18th and 19th century, where you’ll find balustrades, handrails, and carved railings made from metal, and roofs made from local tiles, and where one can breathe in the same attractive atmosphere that pervaded the place centuries ago, and brought eminent travelers, such as Alexander Humboldt, to visit.

Just 12 kilometers away from the so-called Museum City, Playa Ancón is found with its fine sands, blue waters and mountains like a curtain back drop. Its deep seas, with steep reliefs and significant clusters of black coral, can be explored from more than 20 dive immersion points, some of them near Cayo Blanco, an island which is about 45 minutes away from the port of Casilda, close to Ancón.

This is a wonderful destination that combines city and beach.
